It has inspired me to get into the city and do some street photography but while I am getting motivated to do that trek, I thought I would give shadow play a go outside of my home. This is R walking down the street on bin night, it was around 8pm. I used the light from the street lights above him and my 50mm on f/1.8, ISO1600. It is quite grainy which I think adds to the mood I was trying to create. I converted it to black and white in Lightroom.
50mm, 1/20, ISO 1600, f/1.8.

Hi '75, was wondering about the grain that you mentioned. Was it just the ISO 1600 that caused that. I wouldn't think so but I'm trying to learn and knew you'd know the answer. And btw that one light sure looks like the moon to me...forever...LH :)
ReplyDeleteHi LH :) Yes, the ISO being bumped up leads to grain, as does lack of light. On my 450D, 1600 is the highest ISO. Newer cameras would have much better results at this level. In Lightroom 5, there is a grain slider which I bumped up slightly as I wanted it to give the photo a slightly out of focus and textural feeling.
